2003

Another day of broken records at the annual Ely Runners New Year's Eve 10K road race, one of the biggest events in the local calendar which was run in cold, dry bright conditions and attracted competitors from all over the country. There was a record 462 finishers. The overall winner was Guy Amos of City of Norwich AC who set a new course record of 31:08. The first woman to finish was Jane Clarke of Norfolk Gazelles who also set a new course record with a time of 36:55. Once again for the second year in succession the second place male, Ian Williamson, and female Wendy Reeson, also broke the previous course records. The field also included North East Bedfordshire MP Alistair Burt who finished in a time of 51:54 (316th) 


2002

There were a record number of entries in the annual Ely Runners New Year's Eve 10k road race, which was held on 31/12/2002, with nearly 500 athletes from all over the country starting in Little Downham, Ely Cambridgeshire.

In cool, dry conditions both the men's and women's course records were soundly broken, both by veterans!! Richard Sales from Norwich Road Runners smashed the previous best, clocking 32:42. Tracy Curl, also from the Norfolk club claimed the women's crown, finishing in 38:28. Second place Will Clarke from Cambridge Triathlon Club - 32:55 and women's runner-up Wendy Reeson - 39:04 also broke the previous course records.
